John Blust is an experienced leader who is running for re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives in District 62. John grew up in Northwest Guilford County where he learned the values of faith, family, and hard work. He is a graduate of Western Guilford High School and joined the U.S. Army the day after his 18th birthday in 1972. John earned his airborne wings and served with the elite 82nd Airborne Division. He is dedicated to serving his country and community.
Graduating from the University of North Carolina with a J.D. in 1982, John is an attorney and accountant. Currently, John practices law in the areas of taxation, estate planning, business law, restructuring, and bankruptcy. He served in the North Carolina State Senate before serving what is now 10 terms in the North Carolina State House. Using his experience in accounting and understanding of the law, John is known for fighting for fiscal responsibility in state government.
John is dedicated to delivering results for Guilford County. He has worked on numerous policies implemented by the legislature to lower taxes and create jobs. Policies like these have led to North Carolina becoming the #1 ranked state for business. He’s also worked to pass the highest teacher pay raise in over 20 years while expanding funding for classrooms.
John is married and has one daughter, Barbara. He has attended Westover Church in Greensboro since the age of 6 and was saved by grace at Ambassador Camp at Lake Waccamaw. In his free time, John enjoys reading, exercising, and Tae Kwon Do in which he has earned a 2nd Degree Black Belt.
